Half-angle identities
sin2θ=±21−cosθ
cos2θ=±21+cosθ
tan2θ=sinθ1−cosθ
These formulas are derived from the cosine double angle formula.
Sine Half-Angle:
cos2x=1−2sin2x
2sin2x=1−cos2x
sin2x=21−cos2x
sinx=±21−cos2x
Let x=2θ, so 2x=θ:
sin2θ=±21−cosθ
Cosine Half-Angle
cos2x=2cos2x−1
2cos2x=1+cos2x
cos2x=21+cos2x
cosx=±21+cos2x
Let x=2θ:
cos2θ=±21+cosθ
Tangent Half-Angle
tan2θ=cos2θsin2θ
Multiply top and bottom by 2sin2θ:
tan2θ=2sin2θcos2θ2sin22θ
From the sine working above, 2sin22θ=1−cosθ.
From the sine double angle formula, 2sin2θcos2θ=sinθ.
tan2θ=sinθ1−cosθ
